APRIL IS AUTISM AWARENESS MONTH
According to Autism Speaks, Autism is an ever growing complex neurobiological disorder.
What is Autism Spectrum Disorder? Autism is described as varying degrees of impairment in communication skills and social abilities, and also by repetitive behaviors.
Who does Autism affect? Autism Spectrum Disorder affects 1 in 150 children. That’s roughly 24,000 babies born each year will be diagnosed with Autism. Autism tends to be more common in males considering 1 in 94 will be diagnosed with Autism, however, females generally have more severe form of the disorder.
Is there a cure for Autism? There is no known cure for Autism but there are many treatments. Treatments include early intervention programs such as applied behavior analysis and play therapy to mitigate the behaviors associated with autism.
