Fifty-three Brits Travel Across the Pond to Ride the World's Best Wooden Coaster, Boulder Dash at Lake Compounce

Riders feeling thrills on classic wooden coaster

Bristol/Southington, CT - On Wednesday, June 11th, the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain will roll into town anxious and eager to ride what Amusement Today has dubbed yet again the World's Best Wooden Coaster, Boulder Dash. Fifty-three coaster enthusiasts from Great Britain, ranging in age from 27 to 74 will enjoy one hour of exclusive ride time on Boulder Dash after the park closes for the day.

Andy Hine of Uxbridge founded of the Roller Coaster Club of Great Britain in 1988 with the goal of uniting coaster enthusiasts worldwide, and promoting amusement parks as a fun and safe pastime. The club now has 1,200 members from across the globe that stay connected via online message boards, Facebook and a Club magazine.

In 2001, the group visited Lake Compounce after hearing great reviews about Boulder Dash. When the group heard that Boulder Dash had reclaimed the #1 wooden coaster spot once again, they decided to take another trip to Lake Compounce. "Everything we heard was true and we returned again in 2009," says Hine, "And with a few of the group of having never visited the Park before it would make it a great treat for them and one of the highlights of the tour."

Since 1988, Andy has brought more than 2,000 people from the UK to visit 85 different US parks over 180 times.

When asked why Boulder Dash is enjoyable, Hine replied, "For one, it is made of wood, and all enthusiasts know that 'Real coasters are made of wood'. Plus it is fun from start to finish. It may not hold any highest, longest, fastest records, but you get on smiling and get off laughing, and all you want to do is get back on again!"
